Bowen Therapy

Joana's sessions incorporate a distinctive skill set, comprising Bowen Therapy, The EMMETT Technique, BE Activated, and even Pilates exercises, tailored to help you achieve your objectives in pain relief, stress reduction, and restoring balance. All techniques  are part of the neuromuscular body treatment approach.

Bowen Therapy

Joana’s Bowen Therapy approach

Bowen Therapy, as our primary healing method, is a highly effective remedial soft tissue therapy. It requires the practitioner using their thumbs and fingers to execute unique rolling-type movements on specific points of the body, stimulating the body's innate healing mechanisms. Even though some times more pressure may be used than others, overall the session is very relaxing, and some people fall asleep.

Throughout the treatment, Joana includes intervals for your body (and nervous system) to process the therapy.

It's important to note that there are no forceful joint manipulations or adjustments involved.

Conditions

Some of the conditions that respond well to Bowen Therapy are:

Musculoskeletal - Support to muscular pain or movement related issues in the body, whether due to posture or injury recovery. This includes any part of the body, back, neck,  shoulders, carpal tunnel, RSI, Sciatica, or even general stiffness.

Respiratory - asthma, hay fever, sinus problems.

Digestive - IBS, constipation, indigestion, acid reflux.

Gynecological - infertility, irregular cycles, PMS

Autoimmune conditions and stress related symptoms - Fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, IBS, Parkinson's, ME, migraines

Sports performance - improve your sports performance by improving the way you move, recover from sports injuries or from a strenuous exercise event.

Furthermore, Bowen therapy is highly effective in promoting post-operative recovery, especially when combined with scar therapy.

Bowen Therapy

Treatment

Usually a Bowen session lasts no more than one hour. The first treatment, includes a consultation, and additional time is taken to understand your situation, take a detailed history and conduct postural assessments.

Some clients experience immediate relief and instant changes, while for others it can take longer. It is possible you may feel cold, or warm, perhaps a tingling sensation - sometimes people don’t feel much during the session but it is later in the day that they feel the effects of the session, quite often by feeling tired and sleepy.

In most circumstances, clients feel the benefits from their Bowen treatment in the days that follow, as their body makes the needed adjustments. IT can take up to 5 days to fully process a Bowen treatment.
