Integrating Bowen and Scar Therapies
Bowen Therapy
Joana’s Bowen Therapy approach
Bowen Therapy, as our primary healing method, is a highly effective remedial soft tissue therapy. It requires the practitioner using their thumbs and fingers to execute unique rolling-type movements on specific points of the body, stimulating the body's innate healing mechanisms. Even though some times more pressure may be used than others, overall the session is very relaxing, and some people fall asleep.
Throughout the treatment, Joana includes intervals for your body (and nervous system) to process the therapy.
It's important to note that there are no forceful joint manipulations or adjustments involved.

Treatment
Usually a Bowen session lasts no more than one hour. The first treatment, includes a consultation, and additional time is taken to understand your situation, take a detailed history and conduct postural assessments.
Some clients experience immediate relief and instant changes, while for others it can take longer. It is possible you may feel cold, or warm, perhaps a tingling sensation - sometimes people don’t feel much during the session but it is later in the day that they feel the effects of the session, quite often by feeling tired and sleepy.
In most circumstances, clients feel the benefits from their Bowen treatment in the days that follow, as their body makes the needed adjustments. IT can take up to 5 days to fully process a Bowen treatment.
